Saschiz pottery was the occupation of Saxon potters in Saschiz until the 17th century, when the craft was abandoned. The Transylvanian cobalt blue pottery was obtained by the sgraffito technique (by scratching), specific to this area. In the 21st century, the well-known potter Cornel Sitar, creator of Baia Mare ceramics, tried to revive Saschiz pottery. And since 2015, the „Camelia Botnar” and „ADEPT” Foundations have contributed to the rediscovery of the old technique and to the training of young people to carry on Saschiz pottery. Although, as in the case of Voroneț blue and Săpânța blue, no one knows how to obtain Saschiz blue, the young potters strive to reproduce both the color and the specific ornaments of Saschiz pottery. The clay is kneaded, molded on the wheel, and then the pots are left to dry. They are then glazed with blue and left to dry again. Then the ornaments are scratched to the clay and burned twice. The ornaments are astral, geometric, floral and zoomorphic.
Wiping with a soft wet cloth or handwashing is recommended.
